Some weeks feel like they get away from me before Monday even starts. The thing that helps most isn’t a big cleaning day. It’s a short, simple Sunday reset: about an hour of small things that make the whole week feel lighter.

Here’s the routine I come back to. Take what works for you and leave the rest.

1. Reset the main spaces (20 minutes)

Not a deep clean, just a reset. Set a timer and move fast.

  • Clear the kitchen counters and run the dishwasher.
  • Put things back in their homes in the living room and entry.
  • Start one load of laundry (towels or sheets are perfect for Sunday).
  • Take out the trash and recycling.

A cleaning caddy stocked with the basics makes this so much faster, because you’re not hunting for supplies room to room.

2. Look at the week ahead (10 minutes)

Sit down with a cup of something warm and look at what’s coming: appointments, school things, work shifts, birthdays. I like a simple weekly planner pad on the counter where the whole family can see it. When everyone knows the plan, there are fewer surprises.

3. Plan meals (15 minutes)

You don’t need a perfect menu. Pick four or five dinners, check what’s already in the fridge and pantry, and make a list. Leave a night or two open for leftovers or “fend for yourself” night. A magnetic grocery list on the fridge lets everyone add what’s running low.

4. Do one small prep task

  • Wash and chop vegetables for the week.
  • Cook a pot of rice or beans.
  • Set out clothes for Monday.
  • Pack anything that needs to go out the door first thing.

Just one or two of these makes Monday morning feel so different.

5. Save a little time for you

This is the part people skip, and it matters most. Take a walk, read a chapter, water the plants, or sit outside for ten minutes. A reset is about your peace of mind too, not just a tidy house.

Keep it simple

If an hour is too much, do the 20-minute reset and the week preview. Even that small habit adds up. The goal isn’t a perfect home. It’s starting the week a little calmer.

Tell me what you think over on Instagram. I love hearing from you.

A cozy finishing touch: once the house is reset, I love making it smell warm and welcoming. A simmer pot on the stove is my favorite way, and our Kitchen Grove Botanical Simmer Pot Blend from Beeholden Farms makes it easy. For more ideas, see how to make your home smell cozy, naturally.
